Ex- Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Calistos Obi has bagged a 42 year jail term on corruption allegations.
The sentence was passed by Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos state on Monday, 3rd of June, 2019.Also sentence to 42 years imprisonment is Alu Dismas, and aid to Patrick Akpobolekemi, a former Director-General of NIMASA. Justice Mojisola Olatoregun found the defendants guilty on charge two, three, four, six, seven and eight, thus sentenced them to 7 years per count. >The Judge however gave the convicts an option of fine of 42 million Naira per count.
The convicts were arraigned on the 12th of April, 2016 on an eight count charge bordering on conspiracy, conversion and money laundering to the tune of N136 million.On pleading not guilty to the charges, the stage for the trial of both defendants was then set.
